Preparing and Programming Custom Voice Messages (EN series)

Product / Models Affected:

  • EN2 (2-Wire) series Push Button Stations
  • EN4 (4-Wire) series Push Button Stations

See APS Compatibility/Identification Guide

Tools Required

Programming custom messages in the field requires:

  • Windows laptop
  • USB A/B cable
  • Polara EZ APS ToolBox Software

Audio File Preparation

If the custom audio files have been prepared by Polara, they will already be ready for use in the EZ APS ToolBox software (must specify the messages are for EN series PBS at time of order).

Note: Polara cannot provide support for studio recording or audio processing and manipulation. If you are recording your own messages, it is recommended that audio file creating be done by an experienced audio technician.

The EPBS messages must be saved as uncompressed PCM .wav files. They must be formatted correctly:

  • Mono, 16-bit, 16kHz format
  • Normalized to 100%
  • Messages must be trimmed and saved as individual files
  • On board memory for messages is limited. Total play time for each file must be kept to a minimum. Any file longer will be cut off by the software when programming:
    • Voice on Location: 12 seconds maximum
    • Custom Walk #1: 8 seconds maximum

Programming Audio

The EZ APS ToolBox software will only update the messages which you enable for programming (via the checkbox). Typically only the Voice on Location and Custom Walk #1 need to be programmed.

  1. Plug in the USB A/B cable into the bottom of the EN series PBS. Open EZ APS ToolBox software, login to the button, and navigate to the Audio Programming tab.

  1. Choose the audio programming mode which matches your desired custom intersection message set. The Custom Messages option is most commonly used.

  1. Click the Browse... button next to the audio messages you wish to program and find the .wav file appropriate for each message.

  1. Press the Play button to verify that the message is correct and plays properly.
  • The filename will appear green if the message is formatted correctly
  • The filename will appear red if there is a formatting error. Mouse-over the filename to view the errors or see the information bar on the right. You must correct any errors or uncheck the box next to the message(s) with errors before continuing.

  1. Once the messages have been verified to be correct, press Update EPBS Audio to begin programming.

  1. Wait for programming to complete
  2. Press OK
