This article is intended to diagnose issues with an iNavigator 2W button when connected to an iCCU series control unit in the cabinet. See APS Compatibility Guide article to help identify your equipment.

Product / Models Affected:

  • iNS2/iDS2 (all variants)
  • iN2 (all variants)
  • iCCU-S/iCCU-S2
  • iCCU-C/iCCU-C2

Flash Patterns of Button's LED

Meaning
2-Flash
  • Button Searching for iCCU
    • Should be in this mode after performing a POST (see below) and until the iCCU is found and the Comms Channel is set on the button
    • Button may reboot itself several times in this mood
3-Flash
  • Button Performing POST (Power On Self-Test)
    • Button should only be in POST for a short duration after powerup.
  • Button in Maintenance Mode:
    • Audio Playback Enabled (PBS Configuration > Settings)
    • iCCU in Maintenance Mode (iCCU Configuration > Info/Diagnostics)
    • FW Update initiated
4-Flash
  • Button Not Assigned to phase, or
  • Interval Status Error. Button's Assigned Phase not receiving valid interval data (WALK, DON'T WALK, or CLEARANCE/COUNTDOWN)
5-Flash
  • POST (Power On Self Test) Fail
    • Button has an internal or software failure
Rapid Flash
  • Sudden loss of iCCU Communication (requires button reboot)
  • Most common on iCCU-C/C2 systems after performing a firmware update
2 quick blinks (3X)
  • BLE Connection established
    • Attempted connection to the button via an app
  • Flash LED Initiated
    • Flash LED command is sent by the user

Constant Call

Check flash patterns of the button:

  • 2-Flash - If button has already been assigned a phase, the iCCU will retain a constant call on that phase
  • 3-Flash -
  • 4-Flash
    • Check Phase Assignment for any buttons showing as Phase 0 or Unassigned
    • Any time a button is in 4-flash and it has not been assigned a phase, the iCCU will lock a call on all channels/phases until it is assigned
  • Rapid Flash
    • Will cause a similar issue as 2-Flash if button has already been assigned a phase
    • Reboot button
  • Check phase assignments in field service app, if extra buttons are present (highlighted in pink), unassign them
    • Choose Phase 0 and Save, button will be removed
Check the field service app to see if the buttons are receiving interval information. If not, check wiring on load switches (for 4 Channel mode or SDLC mode) or SDLC BIU assignments (for BIU mode)
Make sure cabinet controller is not set to Recall for that phase
Remove PLC wires from buttons. If the call goes away, the issue may be with the buttons or field wiring.
Connect button directly to the PLC port on the iCCU-S/S2 or the ICB to bypass field wiring. If the issue follows, swap the button with a known good one.
If SDLC Hybrid mode, check if iCCU is receiving SDLC data.

Button will not place call
Check button flash patterns (see above)
If flashing twice, change communications channel under Advanced Communications Settings in the Field Service App. Factory default is Channel B. Change from B to A and give the system up to 5 minutes to find everything. Change to Channel C, if still flashing twice on Channel A.
If flashing four times, check Phase assignment using the Field Service App. If button is correctly assigned a phase, check Interval Status (iCCU Configuration > Cabinet Ped Interface > View Interval Status)
Confirm Cabinet Ped Interface is configured correctly in Field Service App under iCCU Configuration (See Quick Start Guides under User Manuals & Guides)
Run diagnostic test on button using field service app under PBS Configuration, Info/Diagnostics, Run Diagnostic.
See if Locate tone and wait messages are audible. If not, measure voltage across field wiring to see if 24VDC is reaching the PBS.

Will not power on
See if other buttons are powered on. Check for 12-14 gauge wire and ICB wiring.
Measure voltage across button wires for 24VDC. If not present, measure across PLC terminals on iCCU for 24VDC.

Will not exit maintenance mode (3-Flash)
Ensure maintenance mode is not enabled under PBS configuration, Settings.
Power cycle the button, if still in 3-flash, RMA the PBS

Will not play audio or distorted audio (Custom Messages only)
Ensure Walk Mode Sound is set to "Custom Walk 1" and Information Message is set to "Custom (With Pulse)" using field service app, under PBS configuration, Settings
Make sure audio file is in *.ogg format. If not, convert the audio file to *.ogg format using the PC Intelligent Config App.
If audio is still distorted or will not upload, it may be corrupt. Either request a new audio file from Polara/distributor, or create a new file using an audio recording application such as Audacity (Mono, 48000Hz, 32-bit float).

Will not play audio or distorted audio (All sounds)
Ensure firmware is the current version. This can be checked and updated using the PC Intelligent Config App or the mobile field service app under Firmware Update.
Power cycle the button by disconnecting, then reconnecting one of the button wires.
Measure resistance across the speaker terminals (cannot be field tested for iN3). If significantly less or greater than 8 ohms, send in the PBS for RMA.

Low Audio (All sounds)
Verify "Quiet Time" is disabled or is not applicable to the current time
Verify "Calendar" is disabled or not applicable for the current/time/date/holiday

Button(s) Stuck in 2-Flash - Intermittent Communications Loss with iCCU

If flashing twice, change communications channel from B to A under advanced communications settings in the field service app. Change to Channel C, if still flashing twice on Channel A.

iCCU-C/C2 systems: power cycle power supply brick after each channel change.

Ensure use of 12-14 gauge button wire.
Ensure use of dedicated pairs of wires from each button to the interconnect board.

Check wire continuity. (Resistance: 1.5 Ohms or less for total run (from cabinet to pole and back to cabinet)

To check, disconnect field wires on both ends; twist the 2 wires on one end & measure resistance of the entire run on the other end.)

Cannot connect to button via Bluetooth

Make sure field service application version is up to date:

  • Polara FS App for iOS
  • Polara FS App for Android
  • Intelligent Config PC App for PC

For Android:

  • If you do not see any buttons on the Connect menu:
    • Ensure Bluetooth is on for your device
    • Check App Permissions. Minimum permissions for App operations are
      • Location Services > While Using, Precise Location > Enabled
      • Bluetooth > Enabled
      • Nearby Devices > Allow
      • Local Network (Optional) > Needed for downloading files and help documents over WifI
      • Cellular Data (Optional) > Needed for downloading files and help documents
    • Cycle the Android device's Bluetooth off and on, then try again

For iOS:

  • If you do not see any buttons on the Connect menu:
    • Ensure Bluetooth is on for your device
    • Check Polara FS App Permission. Minimum permission for App operations:
      • Location Services > While Using
      • Bluetooth > Enabled
      • Local Network (optional) - used when the app needs to access WiFi for accessing help documents and Audio Library
      • Cellular Data (optional) - used when the app needs to access cellular data for accessing help documents and Audio Library

Ensure that the Bluetooth setting on the iCCU is enabled:

  • Navigate the front screen menu: iN2 Bluetooth Enable/Disable > Bluetooth is ENABLED).
  • Alternately, log into the iCCU and go to iCCU Configuration > Info/Diagnostics, chose Disable/BLE and Confirm.

iN2 Only (not applicable for iNS2/iDS2):

  • Login to the system via the iCCU (or another connected button that can be seen on the Connect). Go to PBS Configuration > Wireless Sync. Check if wireless sync is enabled
  • Alternately, hold the button for an extended push, then wait 5 seconds and refresh the Connect menu of the Field Service App. If device shows up, try an connect to it. You must connect to the ped interval returns to Don't Walk (DW)

The device will show up until it returns to the next Don't Walk, so you must connect to it before the device cycles back to DW.
