iNX/iDX Troubleshooting

Terminal Block Connections:

PWR (+) & GND (-): The iNX needs 10-24 VDC between PWR (power) and GND (ground) in order to power the button. This voltage must be present at all times for proper operation.

BUTTON (+/-): The iNX accepts 7-32 VDC across button terminals. When the PBS is powered and the physical button is pressed, the voltage will drop to ~0VDC. This is a contact closure connection that signals the RRFB controller to activate the warning lights.

There is no polarity requirement, the terminals accept either orientation.

LIGHTS (+/-): The iNX needs a voltage signal from the RRFB in order to play the warning message. The iNX accepts 7-32 VDC to the LIGHTS terminal. The voice message will not play without the button detecting this voltage. There should be no voltage (0 VDC) when the RRFB warning lights are inactive (not flashing).

There is no polarity requirement, the terminals accept either orientation.

iNX - Terminal Block Connections

Will Not Power On

Ensure correct polarity on PWR (typically red) and GND (typically black).

Note: An iNX button operates on DC voltage only.

Measure voltage (10-24VDC) across PWR and GND, If voltage is not within range, disconnect wiring and measure voltage across wires:

  • If voltage is still not within range, narrow problem to wiring or to RRFB Controller.
  • If voltage is within range, attempt to power cycle the button by removing the PWR wire, waiting 5 seconds, and reconnecting:
    • Typically an iNX button will have a locate tone that beeps about once a second or be visible on the Field Service App > Connections menu
    • If button does not recover after a power cycle, RMA button

Before troubleshooting for any below issues, ensure the FW is up to date on the iNX/iDX button. On the Polara FS App, navigate to Firmware Update > Apply Latest Firmware

To ensure compatibility and because of the large variety of manufacturers and models of RRFBs, Polara always recommends the latest FW is flashed to the button

RRFB Warning Lights Will Not Flash
  • Ensure button is powered on - usually indicated by the button playing the locate tone or being visible on the Field Service App > Connections menu.
    • If not, see above Will Not Power On instructions
  • Measure voltage (7-32VDC) supplied across BUTTON terminals to see if voltage drops to ~0VDC when the button is pressed
    • If not, power cycle the button and attempt again (if this fixed the issue, see if a FW update is available)
    • If voltage supplied is not within range, narrow problem to field wiring or RRFB controller
    • If voltage drops to ~0VDC and the RRFB does not activate, the button is working and the problem is with the RRFB controller or the wiring

Button Will Not Play Message
  • Ensure button is powered on - usually indicated by the button playing the locate tone or is visible on the Field Service App > Connections menu
    • If not, see above Will Not Power On instructions
  • Measure voltage (7-32VDC) across the LIGHTS terminals when the RRFB is active. If not within range, narrow problem to field wiring or RRFB controller.
    • Note: Shortly after the button is pressed, an active high voltage is (pulsed or straight DC) is sent from the RRFB controller on the LIGHTS terminals to the iNX button to play the message. There should be a voltage present for the full duration of the activated RRFB
  • Ensure button is set to look for the appropriate signal type from the RRFB light input. In the Field Service App > Settings > LED Flash Behavior:
  1. Track Lts In (Track Lights Input):
    • The LED output will mimic the signal present on the LIGHTS terminal. When the input is High, the LED will be on
    • When the input is Low, the LED will be off. Typically you will see a fluctuation of the voltage on the LIGHTS input wires
    • When this is active, the iNX will play the Speech Message Selection the prescribed number of times saved in Settings.
    • This setting is commonly used with an RRFB.

2. Play Predefined Pattern - (LED Flash Pattern Desired):

    • Upon detecting a High input, the iNX's LED will flash in a predefined pattern (chosen as the 2nd part of the setting) as long the LIGHTS terminal voltage is held High
      • When this is active, the iNX will also play the Speech Message Selection the prescribed number of times saved in Settings
    • Most common LED Flash Pattern type is Rapid Flash, see description in app for each pattern type
  • Measure voltage (7-32VDC) across the LIGHTS terminals when the RRFB is active. If not within range, narrow problem to field wiring or RRFB controller.

Button Will Not Play Message Correct Number of Times
  • If the message plays consistently but not the correct number of times, the LED Flash Behavior may need to be changed:
    • See above Button Will Not Play Message instructions
