Articulating Ped Extender (APE)

The Articulating Ped Extender (APE) is used to mount a Polara Push Button System (PBS), including all iNS/iDS Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS) and iNX/iDX Audible Information Devices (AID), up to 24" away from a traffic pole to allow proper positioning of the PBS with respect to the crosswalk.

Compatibility

This mounting solution is designed to work with a variety of pole types, including:

  • Telespar poles
  • Square poles
  • Fluted poles*

*Note: While the APE was tested to show good fit on a variety of fluted pole profiles, Polara does not guarantee fit on all types

Dimensions and Measurement Guidance

The listed length refers to the distance from the pole to the back of the mounted button. For example, a 24-inch bracket measures 24 inches from the pole surface to the back of the button.

APE-24-PC-GY

To determine total clearance or compliance:

  • Add the thickness of the button (2.175 in) to the bracket length (iNS/iDS/iNX/iDX)

This ensures accurate positioning based on your specific equipment requirements.

Installation Mounting Options

The bracket supports multiple mounting methods:

  • Banding to the pole
  • Bolting directly to the pole
    • Polara recommends corrosion-resistant fasteners in 3/8" diameter
    • If tapping holes in pole, ensure pole material and wall thickness are suitable
  • Pole fasteners and banding hardware is not included
